Satellite Healthcare Announces 2006 Norman S. Coplon Extramural Grant Recipients
Grants Fund Critical and Innovative Kidney Disease Research
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, August 22, 2006 – Satellite
Healthcare, Inc., a leader in the field of kidney disease, today
announced the recipients of its 2006 Norman S. Coplon Extramural
Grants. Awarded each year, these extramural grants are provided to up
to eight individuals and/or institutions engaged in promising kidney
disease research in the United States and Canada. This year’s eight
recipients come from research institutions across the U.S. and include
individuals focused on both clinical and basic research in the area of
kidney disease.
“Once again, we are very impressed by the overall high-quality of
all of the grant applications. As in previous years, selecting just
eight grant recipients from such an impressive field of entries was
exceedingly difficult,” said Dr. Coplon, founder of Satellite
Healthcare. “With that said, we feel very confident that this year’s
recipients will continue this program’s proud tradition of conducting
innovative and important kidney disease research.”
The recipients of the 2006 Norman S. Coplon Extramural Grants are:
• Vibha Bhatnagar, University of California, San Diego
• David Charytan, Brigham & Women’s Hospital
• Manjula Kurella, University of California, San Francisco
• Robert Mak, Oregon Health and Science University
• Leif Oxburgh, Maine Medical Center
• Chirag Parikh, Yale University School of Medicine and VAMC
• Farzana Perwad, University of California, San Francisco
• Dominic Raj, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center
Grant proposals submitted to Satellite Research, a subsidiary of
Satellite Healthcare, are reviewed and approved by the independent
Satellite Research Scientific Advisory Board. While research topics for
the grants are not restricted to any one clinical area, applicants must
focus on topic that exhibit scientific merit and potential for clinical
application. The grants allow for a maximum of $50,000 per year for a
maximum of three years for each recipient.
“At Satellite Healthcare, as well as our Satellite Research
subsidiary, we are committed to fostering innovative research that can
lead to key breakthroughs in the treatment of kidney disease,” said Dr.
Coplon. “We take great pride in sponsoring these extramural grants, as
they allow us to play a proactive role in ensuring that this type of
critical research is adequately funded.”
